The group’s leader, Ayah Pin, is on the lam; his wives have been arrested, and his devotees are distraught. They had been on the wanted list for being involved in teachings deviant to Islamic beliefs. Ayah Pin was declared an apostate for leaving Islam and had spent 11 months in jail in 2001 for his activities.
