Holy wow: Amtrak has never made a profit in its 33yr history!
From the BCG 2004 Trading Up report. All its capital expenses or depreciation are covered through federal subsidies. They currently rely on a $1.23 billion subsidy, and are seeking $1.8 billion more from Congress in 2005.
