Claiming to support while enforcing deterrents like steel tariffs does not help. Even factories that remain in the states need less workers because they possess higher productivity to technological advances. E.g. Only 50 workers can now produce 3x more than 75 workers could 5yrs ago in the same factory.
On outsourcing IT to India:
Why not? Companies save a lot of money (call centre salaries there start at $2000 [two thousand] per year) which enables western firms to stay competitive and extend savings to the consumer through lower prices. This also collectively frees up money in the economy for investment in future growth industries.   Interesting hypocritical twist; Ross Perot, past unsuccessful American presidential candidate who roiled about jobs vanishing from America with free trade?  His computer company, Perot Systems, has shifted a third of its operations to India, where it employs 2,500 people.
