Does Dutch society have “false veneer of tolerance”?
Attraction of immigration destination is in the eye of the beholder. According to Globe and Mail article by Doug Saunders, Record number of the Dutch are emigrating due to recent immigration and racial turmoil. “Majority are heading to places like Canada for the adventure, ‘more tolerant’ atmosphere, and job opportunities”.
Hmmm, Newsflash!
- One: Canada has substantial immigration problems (e.g. the way they admit people based on professional qualifications only to make it almost impossible for them to re-qualify and continue practicing their given professions, hence the proliferation of PhD cabbies.).
- Deux: Very tolerant Canada still has its fair share of hate-related crime.
- Three: Job opportunities? See one. Not to mention the substantial unemployment levels across even traditionally lucrative/high demand fields, similar to the situation in the US.
