F**king Amazon!

Is now permanently deleting items from users’ wishlists.  If an item is out of stock and they plan not to re-order it, that item is automatically deleted from your wishlist and replaced by a message saying “This title is no longer available”. Like most people who use the feature to maintain a long list to remind them of what they want to read at some point in time, it is impossible for me to tell which items were deleted. Of course emails to customer service confirms that they’re unable to at least tell you what the currently unavailable items were.

The dissappearance of entries from a wishlist makes it impossible to search for the item in alternate venues e.g. other stores, used copies from other amazon sellers/used bookstores, auctions, etc.  Surely making the entry visible but inactive link would have been better than removing it entirely?! But nooo, instead Amazon says “If you can’t buy it here, then you mustn’t try to get it elsewhere”. How’s that for fair trade huh? Funny, I discovered this just as I had started researching how to create a meta-wishlist (incorporating listings from any store/source) I guess this means onwards!

  • Update 6/12/05: Maybe my rantings did help; the missing items have miraculously re-appeared on the list!
  • Update 12/12/05: Dissapeared again; so it’s back to the cursin’!
